Named after the oak groves that graces the entire lower East Bay area of San
Francisco Bay, Oakland has lived up to a reputation of being recognized as among the
greenest city in America. Located at the west coast of San Francisco Bay, Oakland is
the seat of Alameda County, California and a major port in its region. Incorporated in
1852, it has then emerged as a major commercial hub in the East Bay area.
Amazingly features an assortment of 100 languages and dialects, Oakland’s cultural

History
Just like most of San Francisco Bay the territorial area occupied by Oakland once
belongs to Ohlone American Indians, a people who then have a proud heritage of 5,000
years before the European supplanted it with their conquests. At the peak of the Gold
Rush era, the Oakland area became the camp site of other races. This is the beginning
of a multi-cultural society that developed and flourished in the city even to this very
moment.
Landscape
